Memories and Pumpkin Cookies

Kids grow up so fast! Mine are no exception. Now that we are more settled into our home and life is more routine we asked our children to choose a extra-circular that they would like to participate in. L. choose Kenpo Karate and is loving it! S. on the other hand likes her time at home with the family and has had a very difficult time choosing an activity. Riding lessons, no too scary. Dance.. no apparently we had our fill of dance class. Piano...no think I'll pass.

So we decided not to push the subject and hoped she would come to a conclusion on her own.
Thursday on the way home from school S. told me that she would like to take cooking classes! Ok, cooking classes sound like a great idea.

This weekend my husband gave her a recipe for pumpkin cookies at http://verybestbaking.com/. She made the entire recipe herself ( with a little guidance from dad). Then frosted the cookies and made this absolutely delightful sign for the cookies. The cookies were delicious, soft, cake like and not too sweet.

* We changed the recipe slightly by adding 1/2 a stick more of butter and 1/3 cup of cream cheese to the frosting

Your daughter baked those? wow! When I was at her age, I couldn't even boil the water...no kidding....partly because I was lazy...but she can already bake! Marvelous!

Doesn't it make you feel good when your kids cook? I guess we parents find it comforting to know they won't starve when they grow up:)

We made some pumpkin cookies last week- the recipe was in Living. they were not very good, so I am excited to see your recipe. Going to try it next week. Fun to have your daughter love to cook, isn't it?

I am not a parent, but I do think leaving kids to discover the things they love in their own way (with a little guidance parents) is a sure path to future happiness and confidence. GREG
